The man assumed missing for three weeks from east Hokitika is safe and sound, police confirm.

There were concerns for the man last seen east of Hokitika nearly three weeks ago.

Police today confirmed the man is safe and sound and no longer in the bush.

The man - known as Vladimir - was tramping/possum trapping in the Cedar Flat area east of Hokitika a few weeks ago.

Police said on March 30 he was spoken to by a Department of Conservation inspector.

Concerns had been raised Vladimir may have been lost or injured after food left at Cedar Hut, along with some of his gear, had not been touched since March 30.
