Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that a Royal Commission of Inquiry will be held into the Christchurch mosque terror attack.

Processing was scheduled to return to normal at Alliance's Lorneville plant, a company spokesman said.

Operations were affected throughout last week as workers mourned the victims of the terrorist attack in Christchurch.

There was no sheep processing last Wednesday at the company's Lorneville plant and there were reduced operations at both Lorneville and Mataura for the rest of the week.

Alliance Group chief executive David Surveyor said that, like all New Zealanders and people from around the world, they were deeply shocked and saddened by the attacks that happened in Christchurch.

''Our people have been grieving and attending funerals for those who died in the attacks and we are doing everything we can to support them at this difficult time,'' he said.

''We are providing a range of support to affected staff and their colleagues through counselling, food packages, special leave and support for attendance at funerals.''

When Southern Rural Life went to press it was understood that Silver Fern Farms' plant at Finegand was to resume work yesterday after being closed on Friday and for Otago Anniversary Day on Monday.

A Silver Fern Farms spokesman said the company expected to be getting back to full production this week.
