Many entries to Dannevirke sheepdog trials

Dannevirke Sheep Dog Trial Club had a big response to its Dog Trials on February 9-10 with entries of 466, nearly 150 up on last year.

There were over 100 entries in each of the competitions and the new venue in the middle of the Waitahora Valley was a success.

The Hunt competitions were held on Waitahora Road while Heading competitions were on the Waitahora Valley Road on the former Holyoake property.

Dannevirke Sheep Dog Trialling Club President Adam Roe led with his dog Louie winning the Maiden, Intermediate and Open Straight Hunt with a score of 97.5. Simon Prouting with Vince was third behind James Mead with Harry.

Local Tim Stevenson was first with Cruze in the Zigzag Hunt Open and fifth with Banjo while another local Terry Bould with Slam was second. Ned George with Crib was third and first in the Maiden and the Intermediate.

Experienced Bo Milner with Snow was third in the Open Short Head and Yard behind Nod Halley with Spike and Brian Burke with Stone. Peter Williams with Guide won the Intermediate and Chris Redmond with Dee won the Maiden.

In the Long Head Hamish Henricksen's Prince won the Intermediate and Open Long Head ahead of Bob Bruce and Susan and Howard Ingles with Lou. Chris Redmond with Dee won the Maiden.
