With an average price of $193, the sale of 285 feeder calves at Mangatainoka on Tuesday, August 22 was very buoyant, according to PGG Wrightson's stock agent Tim Pickering. The new facility was bursting at the seams.

Top Friesian bulls ranged between $200 and $235, younger calves $160-195, while top beef crosses went for between $250 and $285. Again mediums still fetched $170-195.

Heifers were slightly lower but the best made $170-210 while the smaller calves reached $125 to $155.
