"The thoughts of police and other local emergency services are with Mr Hayman's family and friends at this very difficult time,'' police said.

A young man killed at a workplace incident at a Hakataramea Valley farm this week has been named by police.

He was 27-year-old James Patrick Hayman, of Cattle Creek in Waimate.

Authorities were called to what has only been described as "a workplace incident'' about 10.30pm on Tuesday.

"The thoughts of police and other local emergency services are with Mr Hayman's family and friends at this very difficult time,'' police said.

"The family will be making no comment at this time and ask that their privacy is respected while they come to terms with their tragic loss.''
