National Party stalwart and former Housing and Agriculture Minister John Luxton has become Blue Chip's third independent director.

Chairman Jock Irvine said the appointment came at a time the company was going through "exponential growth".

Luxton has more than 25 years of governance and management experience with farmer co-operatives, public
and private companies.

He said he had extensive property experience, mainly with four rural entities that had large Waikato dairy farming interests.

"I've got reasonable interests in rural property and a lot of financial arrangements involved there," he said.

Luxton is also on the board of Waikato meat company Wallace Corp and Tatua Co-op Dairy.

He was a Cabinet minister for nine years from 1990 and an MP for 15 years. Former fellow MP Wyatt Creech is also a board member.
