The Country's Jamie Mackay caught up with New Zealand First leader Winston Peters today to ask him if he's grandstanding over myrtle rust and the closure of the Silver Fern Farms Fairton plant.
The official word is that the plant fungus myrtle rust made its way from Australia to New Zealand via the wind.
Winston Peters thinks otherwise, saying the fact that it was discovered in Kerikeri nurseries "with pinpoint targeting" suggests a pattern that it was brought in by humans. Peters blames this on "lax security" from the Ministry for Primary Industries.
Winston also says he warned Jamie about the Fairton plant closure last year and goes on to call Silver Fern Farms a "bunch of liars" who are "more devious than a cage full of crocodiles".
