The Country: The CEO of Beef and Lamb New Zealand previews National Lamb Day on Wednesday, when we celebrate the 135th anniversary of the birth of our export meat industry.
Wednesday 15th is National Lamb Day. Why?
On February 15th 1882 the Dunedin left Port Chalmers for London with a cargo full of frozen meat. When the boat arrived in London miraculously only one carcass was deemed unfit for consumption. This day is seen as the start of our exportindustry.
CEO of Beef and Lamb New Zealand Rod Slater caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay to update us on what's happening for the big day and how to get New Zealander's eating our favourite dish - roast lamb.
Slater also explains why Beef and Lamb decided not to push lamb on Waitangi Day this year.
