Lincoln University academic Professor Keith Woodford caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay to discuss whether there is a realistic alternative to dairy farming.
Professor Woodford sayswhile there aren't too many substitutes for the dairy industry he is excited by some prospects in horticulture.
Mackay wants to know if New Zealand can maintain dairy numbers but use different practises such as wintering cows indoors.
