The finals of the Ballance Farm Environment Awards took place in Invercargill last night and Peter and Nicola Carver walked away with the National Ambassador title.
The Taranaki beef and dairy farmers caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay today after a rather large night of celebrations.
The Carvers describe
their farm as "the largest lifestyle block in Taranaki" and have recently converted part of their property to dairying. Peter explains that cashflow was the reasoning behind the change.
Judges said the couple "had immense pride and passion in their business, the environment and the primary sector". They also noted the 5km of road frontage which the Carvers are happy to display to the public. Nicola says the road is important to create that "urban/rural connect".
The Carvers also talk to Jamie about water quality and their year ahead as National Ambassadors.
