ASB's Rural Economist Nathan Penny has earned the nickname "Pollyanna Penny" on The Country due to his "relentlessly positive" outlook.

Today Penny caught up with Jamie Mackay to look at the falling dollar and the resultant rising prices for the likes of lamb, mutton, venison and velvet. Is he still feeling positive?

The deer industry is the "quiet achiever" at the moment with venison and velvet prices rising. Penny says although industry is in a sweet spot "farmers do need to think about the next cycle coming down the track."

Also in today's interview, Jamie asks Nathan whether interest rates are on the rise.
