Nathan Guy says there's a lot of optimism in the dairy industry at the moment.

The Minister for Primary Industries spoke to The Country today about the latest positive Global Dairy Trade auction result which he says is good news for farmers especially after a difficult winter and start to spring.

Moving on to politics, Guy says he is concerned that Labour and Green Party policies have "whipped up this frenzy and really driven a wedge between rural and urban..."

Guy says that National will "stand up for the cockies and farmers and rural professionals here in New Zealand."

Jamie asks Nathan Guy why he did not attend the protest at Morrinsville. The minister said the event was for farmers and "it didn't need politicians there."
