The Country: The Minister for Primary Industries comments on two good news stories from the dairy industry and denies we need to drop livestock numbers by 35% to be GHG-free by 2100.
Investing in research is the best way to combat greenhouse gas emissions, not reducing pastoral livestock by 35 per cent says Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy.
The Minister was talking to The Country's Jamie Mackay today about a recent report from the UK that proposes reducing livestockto lower New Zealand's environmental impact.
Minister Guy said: "it's very easy for reports from other countries to attack us", and the New Zealand dairy industry was already working on solutions.
Other topics in today's interview include the Global Dairy Trade Auction result, the humanisation of the Whanganui River and Nathan Guy's impressive run over the Tararua Ranges for nine and a half hours.
