Dairy NZ's Strategy and Investment Leader Dr Bruce Thorrold says it's disappointing to see another farm test positive for Mycoplasma bovis but not entirely surprising due to the slow developing nature of the disease.
The latest farm to test positive is one of two in the Waimate district placed under
restrictions last week. Dr Thorrold says DairyNZ specialists are working closely with MPI, but more importantly with farmers to help them through the "really stressful and worrying time."
New statistics show dairy cow and herd numbers have dropped from 4.99 million to 4.86 million. Dr Thorrold chats to The Country Jamie Mackay about the reason for these changes and how it has affected the production per head for the dairy industry.
