The Ministry for Primary Industries has identified three new South Island properties that are positive for the bacterial cattle disease mycoplasma bovis, bringing the total to six.

MPI's response coordinator for the outbreak, David Yard spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay saying the disease is under control despite the spread.

Yard says although mycoplasma bovis has now spread to six farms, (including one in North Canterbury), this is an entirely expected pattern at this stage of the response.

Some farmers have complained that MPI has not communicated effectively to neighbouring properties, David Yard addresses these concerns and also explains why the ministry hasn't named the infected farms.
