The man behind a new documentary about meat says he made the film because a lot of people didn't have a clue where meat came from.
Following all the recent talk of alternative proteins and a proposed meat tax, The Country talks to the man who spent two years takingan independent look at the industry and its future.
David White, who made the film MEAT, told Jamie Mackay on The Country that even though he grew up on a sheep and beef farm and worked on a dairy farm, he didn't know enough about the process to make informed buying decisions.
He felt that if he didn't know, then a lot more people wouldn't know.
The film follows a chicken farmer, a sheep and beef farmer, a pig farmer and a hunter.
White explains to Mackay the assertion made by a farmer in the film that every time Lotto jackpots, pork sales drop.
Does the film come to a conclusion, Mackay asks. "You follow the animals from life to death, the farming story, but I do not tell you what to think," said White.
