Shane McManaway is on a mission.

The chief executive of Allflex is looking for applicants for the 2019 Zanda McDonald Award. He spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay about the award which was "born out of mateship," for the man it is named after.

"We lost our dear friend Zanda McDonald ... and we thought we would put this award together to carry on the legacy of things he believed in."

Dean Rabbidge won the award in 2017 and says the mentoring package that came with it was invaluable.

"I travelled Australia and New Zealand between farmers and families, picking their brains [about] how they went through the succession plan."

"Then [I] implemented a fair bit of it at home and managed to get our succession plan across the line and all done and dusted."

So what does it take to be a Zanda McDonald Award winner? Shane McManaway sums it up:

"We're currently in search of future leaders in the agribusiness sector."
