Katie Milne has had positive feedback since taking on the role of Federated Farmers President in June this year.

The Country's Jamie Mackay wonders if Milne is having a Jacinda-like effect on farmers? Katie plays down her success saying she's "just someone different, a fresh face."

Milne is spokesperson for The Farming Leaders Group, which is dedicated to cleaning up New Zealand's waterways for future generations.

Katie admits that farmers have not always got it right in recent years when it comes to water quality and it is time to get a simpler message out to urban New Zealand

"We know we've had a journey to get here and it's taken a whole heap of old-school farming mistakes that we didn't know were mistakes at the time."

Milne says that farmers have learned from these mistakes and know they can do better and that townies should follow their lead.

Also in this interview: Katie Milne gives The Country an update on the mycoplasma bovis outbreak which has been detected on a third farm.
