The Country: We track down one of New Zealand’s best young shearers in France as he discusses the lifestyle of life on the end of a handpiece in Europe.

One of New Zealand's best young shearers Jack "Son of Sir David" Fagan has been busy shearing in France and Corsica for the last 5 weeks.

He caught up with The Country's Jamie Mackay to talk about his experience and to explain what he found out about how wool is treated in Europe.

Amazingly wool is just a by-product which is not used in most parts of Europe and sheep are only shorn for their health and wellbeing.

As a result, when the shearing is over, farmers set the "by-product" on fire!
