Fonterra Head of Farm Source Central Districts, Jason Boyle caught up with The Country Early Edition's Andy Thompson for a chat about sustainability.

Fonterra released its very first sustainability report this week. Jason says the report is a way for the dairy co-op to be more transparent, especially around reducing emissions and cleaning up New Zealand's waterways.

The report highlights measures Fonterra has undertaken to date, to reduce its impact on the environment. The information in the report has gone through an independent insurance body and it will be updated annually.

Jason says the report also addresses and counters claims that dairy is ruining the environment.

Also in today's interview; Jason gives a review of Fonterra's recent community-focused initiative "Open Gates."
