Chairman of Beef + Lamb New Zealand James Parsons spoke to The Country today about some of the key implications for sheep and beef farmers as the result of the proposed policies from the new Government sworn in today.
The Government has pledged to plant 1 billion trees over 10
years and Parsons says there are concerns that sheep and beef farmers will lose hill country land to trees.
Parsons is keen to look at other ways of reducing emissions rather than forestry and mentions using science and research to look at soil carbon and wetlands.
Also in today's interview; Parsons talks to Jamie Mackay of his concerns about renegotiating the TPPA and what it could mean for New Zealand's meat industry.
