Today's "good buggers" are Craig and Roz McKenzie who The Country's Jamie Mackay says are generally regarded as "the poster children" for precision agriculture in New Zealand.
Not only are the McKenzies leading the charge on precision agriculture on their cropping operation in Mid-Canterbury, they also run a large-scale dairy farm.
The McKenzies work really hard on keeping their environmental impact to a minimum, using irrigation water only when, and where, it's needed.
There is little or no leaching under irrigation as the aim is to keep nutrients in the root zone of crops and pasture.
Is that wasn't environmentally friendly enough; the McKenzies are also winners of the 2013 Ballance Farm Environment Awards.
