Labour's proposal to introduce a water royalty for commercial water users would be difficult and require extensive consultation around the regions.

One way to deal with future discussions on water issues would be to set up a Water Roundtable.

DairyNZ CEO Dr Tim Mackle spoke to The Country Early Edition about this idea and how a Water Roundtable would build on the work already being carried out under the dairy sectors' Water Accord and the Ministry for the Environment's Clean Water Package.

Also in this interview Dr Mackle talks to Dom about what's happening with the mycoplasma bovis outbreak, the strategy for sustainable dairy farming refresh and health and safety during calving season.
