The Country: Jamie Mackay catches up with the CEO of Alliance Group to talk about automation in the meat industry, labour availability and quality, “understanding Asia” and lamb prices.

What do advances in technology mean for the meat industry? The Country's Jamie Mackay caught up with the CEO of Alliance Group David Surveyor at the Southern Primary Sector Update Conference in Invercargill today where he is one of the keynote speakers.

The meat industry is embracing new technology and automation looks like the way forward. Jamie asks David Surveyor for some insight into why automation is so important to the industry.

Another big issue facing the meat industry is labour availability and the quality of that labour. Mackay asks Surveyor whether the "good old days" of the career freezing worker is a thing of the past,

He also quizzes David Surveyor on "understanding Asia", one of his key themes at the conference, and dares the Alliance Group CEO to "address the elephant in the room" - lamb prices.

Have a listen to the full interview in the audio clip above.
