Applications are now open for the Silver Fern Farms Plate to Pasture Youth Scholarships, which award six young people around New Zealand $5000 to assist in developing their careers and capabilities in the red meat sector.
Silver Fern Farms chairman Rob Hewett spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay about the
scholarships and urged shareholders to nominate potential candidates.
"We're really pleased with this initiative," says Hewett, "it's not only about our shareholders and their kids ... this is about the whole food supply chain."
The Plate to Pasture Youth Scholarship applications are open to people wanting to develop their career in the food or red meat industry with interests in red meat, food production, agriculture, food marketing, marketing and sales, research and development, food processing, cooking and food technology.
Hewett encouraged Silver Fern Farm shareholders to nominate anyone they think will be suitable for the scholarships. Applicants need to be nominated and seconded by two shareholders, "so it's pretty open."
