The weather has not been kind to lambing season for Sir Brian Lochore.
The Wairarapa farmer and rugby legend spoke to The Country's Jamie Mackay saying he reckons it's the second worst lambing season he can remember.
"You spend all year getting your ewes ready for lambing and they're in good condition and then you can't do anything about the weather."

Lochore says his worst experience lambing was when he was farming south of Eketahuna back in the day.
Listen below:
"We lost half our lambs and those were the days when you did a lambing beat on a horse and ... it was terrible. It just went on and on and on, it was freezing cold as well."
This year's lambing season has not been much better says Lochore who has lost around 600 lambs, numbers which he reckons could be typical around the region.
"It's a significant amount when you know what they're worth at the moment. There has been big losses in Wairarapa and Hawke's Bay."
