Silver Fern Farms announced the resignation of chief executive Dean Hamilton, who will leave at the end of the year.

Silver Fern Farms Chairman Rob Hewett told The Country's Dom George the decision has been in the pipeline for a while and "what Dean was doing was tough on his family."

Hewett says Silver Fern Farms is in a "very good position" because of Hamilton's hard work.

"We owe him a lot...we're sad to see him go. We certainly understand his reasons"

Silver Fern Farms is now looking for a replacement for Dean Hamilton and this will be a global search says Rob.
