As it's Auckland Anniversary day you'd expect Waikato-based Peter Nation to be relaxing, but no such luck - he's out crutching lambs.

The Chief Executive of Fieldays put the handpiece down to speak to The Country's Jamie Mackay about this year's 50th Anniversary National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek.

The theme for this year's event is The Future of Farming says Nation, "We try to look for the things that are topical and try to bring them to the fore."

Food is another focus for Fieldays this year and the big kitchen has been revamped to profile the best that New Zealand has to offer. Nutrition and food health will also be addressed says Peter, as "you are what you eat."

Also in today's interview - Peter talks about other themes at Fieldays such as rural careers and gives a bit of history of the big event at Mystery Creek.
