Store cattle showed no sign of the jitters at Stortford Lodge yesterday, as more than 800 head sold to strong demand.

A feature of the cattle was the outstanding quality of most of them after a good spring of abundant grass growth.

Good angus yearling heifers were again sought after and heavy two-year-old angus steers broke through the $3/kg mark.

In the sheep pens, the best of the terminal-sire lambs sold well but smaller lambs in the yarding of about 2900 head sold at a discount.

Prime sale

Cows sold particularly well at Monday's prime sale. Ewe prices held but lambs were hard to gauge from the small yarding on offer.

A big offering of 121 mostly female cattle generally sold well with cows being the star. Agents said a shortage of stock was behind the demand.
