A new strategy is expected to help solve some of the labour problems of New Zealand's horticulture and viticulture industries.
The plan combines innovative changes in both government policy and industry practice.
Co-Chair of the working group, Peter Silcock, says the industry has had problems with illegal immigrants working in
the sector.
But he says New Zealand-only labour will not satisfy the demand, so there is a definite need to get labour from overseas.
He says the strategy aims to create a legal supply of workers who can be on hand when they are needed and who have the necessary skills.
Mr Silcock says the initiatives includes getting retired people into seasonal work, and introducing more flexibility through working visas, to increase the immigrant workforce.
He says the working holiday scheme has also been expanded over the last few years to help the situation.
