Kaitaia teenager Cailee Stewart and her dog Pumba after a successful shoot at Unahi last week.

Kaitaia teen Cailee Stewart knows how to handle a shotgun. At 17 she's into her fifth duck shooting season, the challenges this year including training a new dog.

Pumba, who has yet to celebrate his first birthday, was keen, Cailee's father John said, but still had a bit to learn.

"He didn't actually retrieve any ducks but he was hot on the heels of my older dog Floyd, and he certainly has potential," he said.

"At the moment his main passion is chewing anything soft he can find under Cailee's pride and joy, her Mazda Bounty, which is good news for Rogers' Motors.

"Cailee finally had to clean the garage out so she could park it out of his reach, so hopefully now he'll concentrate on doing what he's been bred to do."
