Most cattle prices were on a par with last week at yesterday's store sale at Stortford Lodge.

In-calf cows were still in good demand.

In the sheep pens good scanned-in-lab ewes were steady on last week. Longer-term lambs sold well while others sold in line with their quality in a yarding of about 3500 head.

The lack of rain in Hawke's Bay is showing up in both the demand from buyers and the quality of some of the offering.

Buyers for the approximately 500 cattle and the sheep were from around Hawke's Bay, Bay of Plenty, Wairarapa, Feilding and Whanganui.

Prime sale:

Cows sold on a strong market but other stock eased in line with schedules and quality at Monday's prime sale. In the sheep pens a big yarding of ewes eased on the last sale. The best of the prime lambs sold well but lesser sorts also were harder to sell as a lack of rain means a lack of feed for finishing.
