A hunter reported missing in Te Urewera has been found safe and well.

A police spokeswoman said the hunter had been assisted by another hunting party earlier today. An officer later flew into the park and found the hunter.

She said the hunter was with the group and would be flown out tomorrow.

Police received an emergency 111 call about the missing hunter about 1pm.

The spokeswoman could not confirm who had made the call.

A helicopter was sent to help with the search as well as local Land Search and Rescue groups, she said.
