Hornstein set the world record at the Egg Throw and Catch Championships with team mate Robbie Hollander in Swanton England in 2017, and baseballers Paewai and Richards claimed that title off him last year at same event with an impressive throw of 93.6m.

Paewai and Richards will take a break from co-hosting to take part in the action, as they are keen to smash the Rural Games Egg Throw and Catch record they set last year - 85.96m. It's the last event on Sunday, at around 5pm in The Square.

The Hilux New Zealand Rural Games celebrate rural sports and attracts more than 200 athletes from a diverse range of disciplines from both sides of the Tasman.

New Zealand Rural Games founder and trust board member Steve Hollander said the aim was to celebrate rural sports and bring young people together by providing an array of free events for children.

National and world champions from New Zealand and Australia will battle it out for the prestigious Rural Games titles - and world record attempts will be made.

This year's awards include a diverse range of leaders in the traditional rural sports of shearing and dog trials and newer sports like gumboot throwing and tree climbing.

Taranaki woman Nicky Ward-Allen holds the women's world record for footlock and hold in the tree-climbing event at last year's games.

The 35-themed Trillian Trek vehicles with an entourage of 135 people will be arriving in The Square at midday on Sunday.

The Trillian Trek was previously known as the Variety Bash - and over 29 years they've raised $10 million for Kiwi kids in need.

Extreme fisherman and advocate for marine conservation Matt Watson will be at the games.

Watson's Hook Me Up television show is for those who want to venture out deep sea fishing through to crayfishing in Fiordland.

In addition to spending 200 days a year game fishing, he's also a part-time fencer, a social media star and the star of his own TV show.

The Hilux New Zealand Rural Games will be held in The Square, Palmerston North on March 9 and 10.
