Maata Women's Institute recently catered for the Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust in April where 40 hihi birds were released.

The hihi has been extinct in Taranaki for 130 years. Rotokare Scenic Reserve is a pest-free sanctuary located just outside of Eltham and is the biggest fully fenced wetlands reserve in New Zealand.

Maata Women's Institute has strong ties with Rotokare, with members Val Campbell recently awarded a life membership and Deborah Clough a trustee.
