Levin Stock Report

The Levin sale was well attended with good support for all classes of livestock on offer. Four-day-old calves $120 - $250, small xbred $30 - $50. Fat ewes $100 - $140, fat lambs $100 - $150, store lambs $60 - $90. Cattle section - Rsg 2yr heifers $750 - $1000, smaller sorts $530 - $700, ylg F/H steers $520 - $640, xbred steers $440 - $510, wnr hfrs $420.

Some of the prices in the cattle rostrum struggled to meet vendors' expectations, NZFL livestock agent John Watson reported.

Two-year white-face heifers 325 kg traded to $2.40/kg; AngusX heifers 345 kg made $850; 2 year Angus cross steers 561 kg made $1430; Friesian steers 495 kg fetched $1190; white-face steers 455 kg traded to $2.52 / kg.

Two-year white-face bulls 380 kg – 620 kg made $2.40 - $2.66 / kg.
18 month crossbred bulls 295 kg – 440 kg fetched $2.27 - $2.38 / kg.

Yearling Friesian heifers 339 kg fetched up to $1.92 / kg; Murray Grey heifers 370 kg made up to $875; white-face heifers 316 kg made $700; Yearling Friesian cross steers 320 kg made $660.

Weaner Friesian bulls 127 kg - 217 kg made $310 - $570; white-face bulls 118 kg – 245 kg made $360 - $660; crossbred bulls 145 kg – 178 kg made $200 - $410.

Weaner Angus heifers 159 kg fetched $2.67 / kg; Angus cross heifers 112 kg – 130 kg made up to $320; white-face heifers 127 kg – 210 kg made $345 - $635; Charolais heifers 132 kg – 147 kg made $430 - $480; Friesian heifers 182 kg made $3.60 / kg and FrX heifers 195 kg fetched $2.00 / kg.

Angus weaner steers 165 kg – 330 kg fetched $2.80 / kg; white-face weaner steers 140 kg - 150 kg made up to $3.89 / kg; Friesian steers 198 kg made $510.

Friesian boner cows 491 kg - 588 kg traded between $1.54 - $1.57 / kg.

There was a fairly high quality of calves on offer. Top Friesian bulls made $200 - $250; medium Friesian bulls made $150 - $190, top W/F bulls made $290 - $360; medium W/F bulls made $200 - $280; top Angus bulls made $200 - $280; medium Angus bulls made $160 - $190, Speckle Park bulls made $200 – $280; Murray Grey bulls made $290.
