It was good news for cattle breeders at the all-breeds weaner heifer fair at Stortford Lodge.

The good news for cattle breeders continued at last week's all-breeds weaner heifer fair at Stortford Lodge.

The quality of the yarding of more than 600 head was a feature of the fair which attracted an almost full bench of buyers from Hawke's Bay, Waikato, Christchurch and Feilding.

Top price was $1012/head paid for a line of 32 charolais-cross heifers from Waireka Farm, Mangaorapa.

The 269kg animals made $3.88/kg. Last year's top price was $1080/head, $3.82c/kg for simmental-cross heifers from the Rangiora Farming Trust, Tutira.

This year's offering of the same cattle made $1010/head, or $3.61/kg. This year's top per kg price was $4.51/kg for 10 138kg hereford heifers from Rangiora Farming Trust.
