Elections for Global Dairy Co's watchdog Shareholders' Council have netted a lineup of industry high-profilers.
All but one of the 46 seats on the body that will monitor company performance and be an advocate for about 14,000 shareholders was filled in a poll that closed on Friday.
Another election will be needed to resolve a two-candidate deadlock in the Hauraki ward.
Successful candidates include some with a long history of farmer representation, including former Federated Farmers president Malcolm Bailey, now New Zealand's special agricultural trade envoy, and Dairy Farmers of NZ chairman Charlie Pedersen. They represent the Manawatu ward.
At least nine are present or former company directors, about a dozen are university qualified, several have studied overseas thanks to Nuffield or Kellogg scholarships, a number have been placegetters in regional or national farming contests, and most have served as shareholder representatives for NZ Dairy Group and Kiwi Dairies, the two manufacturing companies that will merge with the exporting Dairy Board to form GlobalCo.
Three of six women candidates were elected. Eleven of the 46 seats were filled by nominations, and voter turnout for the contested seats averaged 51 per cent.
GlobalCo chairman John Roadley said he looked forward to building a working relationship with the council's chairman.
The council will meet within a fortnight and among its first tasks will be to appoint a valuer of the company's cooperative shares, and the supplier disputes guardian, known as a Milk Commissioner.
