The East Coast’s Angus cattle studs present their rising-2-year-old bulls for sale by auction on Sunday when the ever-popular Bull Week gets under way.

Several hundred young black bulls will be sold over four days of sales.

Total sales for the 2024 season for black cattle across Wairoa, Gisborne and the East Coast were close to $4 million.

The 2025 R2 bull sales season to date in this region has resulted in sell-outs at the Simmental and Hereford studs.

PGG Wrightson livestock genetics representative Emma Pollitt looked over the offering at the various Angus studs during the recent Bull Walk – a precursor to Bull Week.

“The bulls are in top order,” she said at the time.

“They are a reflection of the buoyant growing season. They offer all the traits that buyers have come to expect from East Coast Angus cattle – soundness, type and grunt.”

Cricklewood at Nūhaka follows at 4pm.

The selling moves to the Gisborne area on Monday with sales at Orere, Tangihau and Kaharau.

Tuesday’s sales action starts at Whāngārā, then shifts to Turihaua.

On Wednesday, it will be the turn of Kenhardt at Whakaki and Turiroa near Wairoa.

Tawa Hills at Motu is selling its line-up by private treaty this year.

Tangihau at Rere produced a New Zealand on-farm record last year when its Lot 2 sold for$135,000.

It was bought in partnership by Kaharau Angus and Turiroa Angus.
