The inclusion of peacocks in Umawera Hall's pest hunt last week might well have been a first for the Far North.

The Northland Regional Council has no strategy plan for the birds, saying farmers generally control their numbers. Nor are they included in DOC's pest-free by 2050 plan, although it says any introduced species is a threat to native wildlife.

According to Google feral peacocks are a threat to conservation.

With no natural predators they can quickly get out of control, fouling and digging up paddocks and bush areas. A number of district councils list them as a pest.
