Feed line starting up for southern farmers

The dry summer in the deep south is causing problems for farmers.

Federated Farmers is opening up its 'feed line' tomorrow following indications from Southland and South Otago farmers they may run short of feed.

Adverse Events spokesman David Rose says a lack of rain over December and January means winter feed crops have lost up to two growing months.

He says Invercargill experienced its lowest rainfall in December since 1940.

David Rose says the feed line allows farmers short of feed to get in touch with those who have surplus.
