Dairy farmer Gordon Glentworth of Kaponga in South Taranaki has been elected president of the World Federation of Ayrshire Breed Societies.

Mr Glentworth is a past president of Ayrshire NZ and has been a director for 11 years.

He is also a senior judge and a TOP (traits other than production)
inspector.

Mr Glentworth and his wife, Shona, run two dairy farms on a total of 90ha and milk 200 cows. They have had the highest-performing Ayrshire herd of more than 25 cows for 12 of the past 13 years.

Mr Glentworth said his goal was to ensure that the Ayrshire cow was genetically superior to that of other major dairy breeds here.

NZ will host the World Ayrshire Conference in 2004.
