A 22-year-old Omakau man has appeared in court on four charges, following an incident near Omakau on Sunday.

Jake James White, farmer, of Omakau, appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in the Alexandra District Court yesterday.

White is charged with possession of a firearm (a sawn off shotgun) without lawful, proper and sufficient purpose; threatening to kill; Crimes Act assault; and injuring a person with intent to injure.

All the charges relate to an incident in a rural area west of Omakau township.

Police had surrounded the township of Omakau after they were told of firearm use at 2.53pm on Sunday.

A police statement later that evening said the incident had been resolved and nobody was injured.

An ambulance was also called to the scene, but not needed.

White was remanded in custody until March 6, without plea.
