Edendale to double production

Fonterra's dairy factory at Edendale in Southland plans to more than double production next season, and shareholders and Southland businesses will enjoy the results, a spokesman said.

Edendale dairy factory manager Bruce Donnison said the plant would produce 230,000 tonnes of product during the 2003-04 season.

That compared with 108,000 tonnes during 2001-02 and 165,000 this season.

The increase is the result of two new milk powder plants, the first of which came online in August. The second is expected to open in September.
