East Otago ploughing contest results

Ground conditions near Palmerston over the weekend were good for the 17 ploughmen and women from as far afield as Kirwee and Gore who competed in the annual East Otago ploughing contest near Palmerston.

Winners from annual regional ploughing competitions, including East Otago, win the right to compete in the annual national contest, which will be held at Kirwee, Canterbury, this year.

Results:

Silver Plough reversible event: Bob Mehrtens, Timaru, 177 points (63.2%), 1; Ashley Seaton, Kirwee, 166.5 points, 2; Robert Casey, Temuka, 135 points (51.9%), 3.

Vintage Ploughing event: Alistair Rutherford, Gore, 190.5 points (73.2%), 1; Sean Leslie and Kaye Walker, Middlemarch, 160 points (61.5%), 2; 3: Gordon Carter, Rakaia, 150.5 (57.8%), 3; Bruce Cameron, Temuka, 141 points (54.2%), 4.

Special prizes: Best feering, Alister Rutherford. Best finish, Sean Leslie and Kaye Walker.
