Visitors thronged the Palmerston Saleyards yesterday morning for the East Otago Field Days.
The new location, alongside State Highway 85 just west of the town, was dry and roomy after the squelching mud of the showgrounds at last year's inaugural event.
Exhibitors with any sort of connection to the
rural sector, some having travelled long distances to take part, were displaying their products and services. A central green space and large marquee were set up for demonstrations of cooking and fashion.
At the secretary's tent, strategic communications adviser Maria Barta and administrator Susan Lawson were answering queries and directing people to all corners of the site.
The plentiful parking areas and entranceway were staffed by volunteers from the Otago Motor Caravan Club. A dozen of them were taking turns throughout yesterday and today.
