Duntroon dairy farmer Geoff Keeling inspects his prize-winning fodder beet crop

Duntroon dairy farmer Geoff Keeling is proud of his prize-winning fodder beet crop.

He won the irrigated fodder beet section in the Waianakarua and Waiareka Valley Lions clubs winter crop competition in North Otago, along with fattest fodder beet and the crop that caught the judge's eye. The competition raised $36,250 for the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter Trust and $11,500 for the Observatory Village Charitable Trust.

Results:

Longest fodder beet: Rogan Borrie. Fattest fodder beet: Geoff Keeling. Heaviest fodder beet: Rogan Borrie. Swedes: Rogan Borrie 1, Ian Hunter 2, Grant Ludemann 3. Winter rape: Conrad Sim 1, Bill and Jenny Malcolm 2, John and Maria Dickie 3. Dryland kale: Grant Ludemann 1, John and Maria Dickie 2, Ian and Eleanor Caldwell 3. Irrigated kale: Greg Nelson 1, David and Phillipa Gillies 2, Ed Finlay 3. Dryland fodder beet: Francois Tillard 1, Greg Nelson 2, David McCabe 3. Irrigated fodder beet: Geoff Keeling 1, Robert and Sylvia Borst 2, David McCabe 3.
