Edgecome farmer Donna Smit has been elected to the Fonterra board.

Edgecome farmer Donna Smit has been elected to the board of Fonterra, returning officer Warwick Lampp said.

Shareholders also voted to re-elect incumbent director Michael Spaans. Stuart Nattrass was unsuccessful.

Smit lives and farms at Edgecumbe, and has built and owned seven dairy farms in Eastern Bay of Plenty and Oamaru.

She is director of Ballance Agri Nutrients and Primary ITO, and a Trustee of Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre and Eastern Bay Energy Trust.

Smit, a Chartered Accountant, was company administrator at Kiwifruit Co-operative, EastPack, for 24 years.

Shareholders Scott Montgomerie and Gerard Wolvers were elected unopposed to the directors' remuneration committee.

All successful candidates will take office at the close of the annual meeting on Thursday.
