Dairy giant backs recycling

New Zealand's biggest recycler, Carter Holt Harvey, has signed an agreement with Fonterra that will significantly reduce the amount of waste paper going into landfills.

CHH's recycling business, Fullcircle, will be responsible for all the recyclable paper from more than 30 of Fonterra's sites around the country.

Fonterra has pledged to reduce the amount of waste it sends to landfill by 75 per cent.

Under the new agreement Fonterra's office waste, used cardboard boxes and milk powder bags will go to Fullcircle centres where they will be sorted, recycled and baled.

In some cases the material may be exported for recycling depending on the demand from CHH paper mills.

CHH's mills at Kinleith and Penrose will use the cardboard and milk powder bags in their paper manufacturing process.
