A child has been critically injured after a quad bike crash in Warkworth, north of Auckland.

It marks the second serious quad bike incident today.

Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust transported the child by air from Warkworth to Starship Hospital after the incident on Old Kaipara Rd around 3pm.

Another person was transported by ambulance to Auckland Hospital in a moderate condition.

Police confirmed the two injured were first taken to Warkworth medical centre first before being taken to facilities in Auckland.

An investigation was under way to understand the circumstances of the crash, a police spokeswoman said.

Earlier today, a person was airlifted to hospital after a quad bike rolled at a rural Whakatāne property.

A St John spokeswoman said one ambulance and a rescue helicopter was sent to the property just before 6am.
